Hello

Welcome! I am Kathy McGraw of KMG, a graphic designer, east coast gal transplanted to beautiful southern California/ San Diego. This is some of what inspires me. I like to think of it as a mix of west coast bohemian and east coast folk meets Mumbai meets Paris. I'm drawn to eclectic hand done looks with lots of prints and texture, particularly Indian prints and French style. I love branding, packaging, hand lettering, hand printed designs, block printing, screen printing, letterpress and illustration...

ILLUSTRATOR LOVE: Leah Duncan

I am really loving the work done by Leah Duncan of Austin Texas. You can find some of her prints here in her Etsy stop. Leah worked as a graphic designer for advertising firms and silk-printing companies. She is inspired by her native american roots, and creates a world where folk meets modern. A woman after my own heart!

HAND PRINTED GIFTWRAP

I first saw these hand printed giftwraps from Field Guide Design on Design Sponge. I love the hand printed or silkscreened design and thought they were so beautiful. The designs used hand carved Indian printing blocks for the initial patterns, that were then turned in to silkscreen block-printed images.

DESIGNER LOVE: Erin Flett

Okay, so now I am truly in love. I found some designs by Erin Flett from my home state in Maine, and do I ever wish I was her. I love, love, love her handsilkscreened pillows... I only wish I had done them. I had been feeling uninspired lately, but now I think I am coming out of that...

MY WORK: Poster for Haiti Poster Project

My poster design: "HANDS OF HOPEfor the Haiti Poster Project is up to $50. It started at $25, so that means it must be selling! Yeah! Yippee!!! It says the media is digital, but I hand silkscreened/printed it on archival 140lb coldpressed watercolor paper... The Haiti Poster Project is a collaboration of artists and designers from around the world, benefitting victims of the earthquake in Haiti...

ABOUT THE POSTER: The poster was inspired by the unwavering faith and hope of the Haitian people in the face of unimaginable hardship. The hands are raised up in supplication - and the prayers are being answered in a shower of hope. The texture at the bottom is a representation of the cracked ground of Port-au-Prince.
